PERSONAS

Damon Salvatore
Product Marketer
"I really needed an interactive demo app, I was excited to get started, but the UI was too confusing for me"

Caroline Forbes
Sales Lead
"I wanted to user Layerpath for my product demo, loved the results, but the features were very basic and also confusing, just a lil' bit"

Niklaus Mikaelson
New user
"The sign-in was long and had no purpose. It asked me so many questions, but did not personalize through my answers"
Interview and Think Alouds
To understand why users dropped off before completing demos or sign-ups, we conducted direct user research focused on behavior, motivation, and usability issues:
User Interviews:
Spoke with sales leads, product marketers, and new users to understand friction points in demo experiences.
Common frustrations: complex flows, unclear next steps, lack of product context, and slow load times.

Market &
Competitor Analysis
To benchmark against market standards and find growth opportunities, we analyzed competitors and industry trends:
-
Market Reports & Articles: Synthesized insights from UX and SaaS thought leaders on demo effectiveness and PLG (Product-Led Growth) strategies.
-
Found that interactive demos improve product understanding by 35–60% when streamlined and user-focused
-

Competitive Analysis: Reviewed UI patterns, demo structures, and key offerings of tools like Navattic, Storylane, Walnut, and Reprise.
Most competitors emphasized speed, personalization, and no-code flexibility
KEY COMPETITORS

Color Test

OLD COLOR PAIRINGS
NEW COLOR PAIRINGS
All variations of the primary color has a better score when paired with black/darker color as foreground
The homepage features four different primary color variations, but their purpose and the specific states they represent are not clearly defined.
Color pairings - Most of the product uses the primary color and a bg and white as the foreground, which is failing the WCAG contrast test.
Eye Tracking

For a first time user, too much attention is being guided to the logo, we can make the CTA more prominent here.
The checklist is not prominent at all (elements not getting enough attention)
OLD USER
The edit button which is prominent here is not getting attention at all, position of edit button must be changed.
NEW USER
Very less focus is going on design section, need to reduce elements so that focus also goes on design
UI Issues
CTA not primary color

Problem: Consistency and Standards - Icon mismatch in meaning and size.
Changes color every time the page refreshes.
- Recognition Rather than Recall - usability issue
Dashboars has no insights

Fixed Aspect Ratio
no tool tip

most uploads fail

no troubleshooting
All voices sound the same

Icon vs action mismatch
Too many unclear options
delay load <10 seconds

error sign, no explanation

Reflection
This project reinforced how crucial clear UI and smooth user flows are to reduce drop-offs in interactive demos. Combining user research with data analysis helped uncover key pain points like complexity and unclear navigation. Competitive analysis highlighted the need for simplicity and personalization. Moving forward, I’ll focus on consistent UI guidelines and ongoing user feedback to improve the experience and drive product growth.
